Optimist Class

The Optimist is the dinghy the world learns to sail in. You can pop into a sailing club virtually everywhere on the planet and see youngsters honing their skills in these little one design freedom machines. And they fit so beautifully into the transition from the Club's Learn2Sail program.

We run a series of programs designed to take young sailors from their first nervous solo attempts post Learn2Sail, through to National and International dingy sailing – while never forgetting that sailing is an awesomely fun sport! We've found that families have just as much fun as the kids when we head off to regattas - indeed at the 2020 Nationals we had a travelling party of over 60 supporting the largest Opti team in Australia!!

Our program runs around three squads:

• Green Fleet;

• Intermediate Fleet; and

• RaceFleet
