From the Commodore

Vale Colin Chidgey

Colin Chidgey passed away on 23 January 2025. Col was a former Commodore and Life member of the club, but he also had tremendous impact in multiple clubs and class associations, particularly junior sailing. He was a well known, and greatly liked and respected Race Officer who was involved with ILCAs, Optimists, Manly Juniors, Open Skiffs, Flying 11s, Sabots, 420’s, teams racing and yachting events. His passing is a great loss to the club and sailing community. Our condolences to his family. Fair winds and following seas.

Learn2Sail

Well done and thank you to everyone who coached at the January camps! 

Term 1 2025 classes commence on 8 February and are now open for registration! Please ensure you register your child through the club website so we can safely allocate coaches. 

To register: 

1. Go to https://www.huntershillsailingclub.org.au/home and click ‘Log in’ at the top right hand corner.

2. Click 'Account' at the top right hand corner

3. Click ‘My Training sessions'

4. Click 'All training sessions' and select the class you would like to register for. 

Class times are as follow:

Saturday Teens and Tweens: 

• Learn2Sail: 1:00-3:00pm

• Learn2Race: 3:00-5:00pm 

Sunday Learn2Sail: 

• Rookie: 8:00-9:30am 

• Momentum: 9:30-11:30am 

• Pro: 11:30am-1:30pm

Skiff Fleet

Coaches Nathan Byrne and Tom Quinlan raced at RQYS in the 18 Footers Australian Championships held over 18-20 January, managing to snare a handicap victory in Race 4.

The club is planning to build our 29er fleet this term, run 29er training with a coach, and have 29ers racing on Sunday afternoons. Some of our senior Opti sailors began training last year and we hope they will join the fleet! If you are a 29er sailor and would like to get back into it, please get in touch: commodore@huntershillsailingclub.org  

Many thanks to Nathan for undertaking a boat audit. If you have a 29er at the club and storage is not paid, please collect it or let Nathan know if you would like to give it to the club.
